Castello Sforzesco

The seat of Milan’s dukedom under both the first Visconti dynasty and the Sforza family, the Castello Sforzesco (Sforza Castle) went from the splendour of Ludovico il Moro’s regency – when it was one of Europe’s most important courts – to be afflicted by wars, sieges and bombings. The castle is home to twelve museums, including the Museum of Ancient Art, the Museum of Musical Instruments and the Pinacoteca which features masterpieces by Mantegna, Canaletto and Tintoretto. Since 2015, the Castle has also showcased the Pietà Rondanini, the unfinished final marble work of genius sculptor, Michelangelo.
