Hoan Kiem Lake
Located at the heart of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake is a restful refuge from the bustle of the city. Known as the 'Lake of the Restored Sword', it’s a precious sanctuary for locals, and in the early morning offers a serene spot for practising Tai Chi. A stroll around the lake takes about 30 minutes, or traverse the iconic red Huc Bridge and discover the treasures of the 18th-century temple of Den Ngoc Son on Jade Island. Among Taoist symbolism and ancient ceramics, discover the preserved body of a 500-year-old giant turtle. You might be fortunate and glimpse turtles in the lake, an auspicious omen according to the local legends.
