Shopping Berlin, Germany
Rebuilt after the war, the Kaufhaus des Westens (otherwise known as KaDeWe) was the gem of West Berlin when the city was divided, a symbol of the victory of capitalism. Literally meaning “department store of the West”, it is spread over seven floors and over 60,000m2, making it the biggest shopping centre of its kind in Europe. Comparable to Paris’s department stores, it mixes fashion, homewares and beauty (Lalique, Chloé, Aqua di Parma and Hermès to name but a few). Its top floor, a fabulous food hall, is truly amazing, inviting visitors to explore the delights of the local cuisine. An experience for all the senses.
