Musée d'Orsay

Overlooking the famous Jardin des Tuileries, the Musée d'Orsay is housed in the former Gare d'Orsay built by Laloux for the World’s Fair in 1900. Founded in 1986, the Musée d'Orsay showcases more than 900 paintings, representing the largest collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art in the world. Don’t miss the museum’s temporary exhibitions showcasing a particular artist, trend or art-historical topic. Make sure to visit The Origin of the World by Courbet, The Luncheon on the Grass by Manet, Bal du Moulin de la Galette by Renoir, and famous artworks by Van Gogh, Degas, Gauguin, Monet, Pissarro, and Klimt. Major renovations in 2011 have given new life to the museum’s collection of Impressionist masterpieces, as clever uses of color and light dramatically change one’s perception of the works. Before you leave, remember to take a well-deserved break at the Campana Café, boasting stunning aquatic-inspired décor.
