Highlight Lyon, France
The largest pedestrianized square in Europe, Place Bellecour is a famous UNESCO World Heritage Site which spans 15 acres and is characterized by its distinctive reddish sand. Stroll to the center of the square and discover the equestrian statue of Louis XIV, which was erected for the second time in 1825 – the original statue was melted down in 1793 to make cannon for the French Revolution. On the western side of the square, a statue of the pioneering aviator and author, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, is joined by “Le Petit Prince” (The Little Prince), the subject of his famous novel. During the festive season, enjoy sweeping views over Lyon from the towering Ferris wheel or glide around the winter ice skating rink.
